Mentorship
Ryan meets weekly one-on-one with student-athletes on an ongoing basis, providing them a personal and private setting to discover and learn more about Jesus. Ryan is blessed with a contagious smile. From politics to sports, family to relationships, Ryan is there to listen and offer his perspective on how to thrive through the stresses of a student-athlete’s life at Alaska Fairbanks. The personal conversations that inevitably occur are kept strictly confidential. No topic or question is off limits to discuss as they bring each other up to date on the happenings of the prior week. Ryan also visits the Fairbanks Correctional Center on religious visits once a week.
Ryan's philosophy of ministry, which can best be described as Relational Ministry, has been derived from his exposure as a camp counselor at Eagles Nest Ranch, to Young Life, Athletes International Ministries, Hockey Ministries International, Campus Crusade for Christ, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Ryan believes that all real ministry flows from relationship, first with Jesus and then out of that to others.
Ryan uses materials that center on the foundational principles of our faith, mixing in a strong flavoring of apologetics – knowing WHY we believe what we believe. After much personal study he is convinced that the evidence for our faith is so strong that it takes more faith to not believe it than it takes to believe it! Ryan is a constant presence on the ice at hockey practices and games, ready to encourage the players and coaches.
Ryan Reinheller
Ryan Reinheller was raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and is the second of four children to Wesley and Janice Reinheller. He graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 2001 with a business administration degree. He also played four years of hockey for the Nanooks. He was voted as assistant captain his junior and senior years. He was a three time final five finalist for the NCAA college hockey humanitarian award. Ryan also led UAFCA which stood for United Athletes For Christ Almighty which was a group that would meet regularly to talk and sing about Jesus. In his senior year Ryan won the Chi Alpha Male College Athlete of the year award. Upon graduation he earned a free-agent tryout with the New York Rangers.
After Ryan decided to hang up the skates, he moved back home to Medicine Hat Alberta. Ryan worked construction with his dad's construction company. In 2002 he married his beautiful wife Andrea. They traveled to Mozambique Africa where they spent some time serving at a children's orphanage. They also traveled to India to help with Impact World Tours share the gospel of Jesus through GX Jam(skateboarding and break dancing), Team Extreme(feats of strength), and Island Breeze(cultural dance). In 2006 Ryan started a wholesale coffee roasting business named Creekside Coffee Roasting Company.
In 2009 Ryan was offered a volunteer position with the University of Alaska Fairbanks ice hockey team as an assistant coach/life coach. He decided to pursue his original passion with hockey and sold his coffee business to move his family to Alaska. During his time spent on campus Ryan was struck by the impact athletes had when discussing their personal faith with others and noticed that more were inclined to listen due to their sports background. Ryan realized that the greatest impact he could have for spreading the teachings and principles of Jesus was to invest and devote his time to the lives of athletes who have a natural platform from which they can speak. He works part-time at Seekins Ford Lincoln.
Ryan has mentored student-athletes at Alaska since 2010. He and his beautiful wife, Andrea, have five children.
